The First Among The Fallen

Last Weekend's Live Shows

If you were a member of The First Among The Fallen, then that means you had an awesome weekend!!
Friday night we had a great show!! We were the first band to play to a crowd of about 75 people (mostly family and friends of all the bands playing that night). The crowd was excited and eager to hear some new music! That night, we also premiered our two new songs for the first time, 'Trust (In A Game Of Russian Roulette)' and 'The Modern Hymn' and the crowd, especially our loyal fans, seemed to absolutely love them!! It really was a great show!!
To top the night off, I went up on stage with our good friends Avolition during one of my favorite songs 'Light Me Up' and I sang along with Cameron, adding in my special dose of Grade A, TFATF screaming!!
Sunday night was also a great night!! I was still pretty sore from giving it my all on Friday night. My neck was stiff, my legs were weak, and my back was hunched, but I wasn't planning on letting that stop me from giving the crowd their money's worth!! So, earlier that day, my wife April gave me a couple of pills for muscle inflammation and a couple of hours later, I was feeling a lot better. Just to be sure though, I played Wii Fit all day and I brought a tube of Icy Hot to the show to make sure that I was on top of my game.
Right before we went on, my adrenaline starting flowing and I couldn't feel my pain anymore. So, I decided to use that to my advantage.
We were the fourth band to play that night and so far, the crowd didn't look to excited. I figured it was either because they didn't like the previous bands that played before us (two of them were cover bands), or that they were all mopey goth kids only here to see Wednesday 13.
First of all, looking at the crowd, I thought they were going to eat me alive!! We all know that self-proclaimed 'goth' kids DO NOT like...ahem...people like me. That's all that was going through my mind at the time and I was so worried that we were going to be booed off the stage because of something as stupid as how someone dresses.
Anyway, the sound-master dims the lights and introduces us. Our first new song 'The Modern Hymn' start playing and the lights slowly brighten. Just as the intro has reached its peak, I start screaming "The sky bled ashes today!!" And the rest, as they say, is history.
We were probably the first band playing that night in which the crowd started to take a liking to...even the goth kids. During our heaviest song, 'The Willow Tree', we were the first band to start a mosh pit!! A pretty big one too!! About 10-12 people!!
The only thing that sucked about that night was that didn't get a live DVD recorded like I promised our fans. The reason being (just between us) is that Mark was being a prick about it; he didn't want to pay for his portion because 'he' didn't want one. And because we were all strapped for cash, we couldn't afford it ourselves.
Oh well, maybe next time I guess.
So, like I told the crowd at the Whisky, we're going to lay low for a little while so that we can work on getting our CD recorded. We have a studio ready for us, we have a good producer, we just need the money to set everything up. Maybe while we're at it, we should work on getting some swag made up for us so that we can raise some money during our shows.

We need your help with the first two categories...we'll take care of the rest!!

Thanks for all you support!! We'll see you this Sunday!!

PS. Mark brought to my attention that the acronym T.F.A.T.F also stands for The Fast and the Furious. I want to go on record saying...WE HATE VIN DIESEL!!!!

The First Among The Fallen

Life On Tour Pt. 3

I can't even begin to tell you about how much fun I had last night!!
In case you've been living underneath a rock, you'll know that my band and I just played our very first show at the Whisky a Go Go last night in Hollywood. It was soooo much fun!! I've never experienced anything like that before in my life!! Being up there, on that stage gave me such a huge rush that I just went insane!! I think I over did it too...because this morning I ended up being really sore in my neck, back, and legs. But you know what...IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT!!!!
So, the four of us got there at around 3:30 pm, right when they opened their doors to the bands. We took care of the money situation and we asked about the plans for today. We found out that the main act, Droid, were going to be doing their soundcheck first, and so on, and so on, and then we'd be last so that we could leave our gear on the stage. So, the four of us grabbed a bite to eat on Sunset Blvd. while we waited for the other bands to show up. Once most of the bands arrived and unloaded their gear, it turns out everyone was pissed off at Droid. You see, Droid was supposed to be there 1 hour before we arrived and nobody could do their sound-check until they got there. So, while we were waiting, all the bands were talking to each other, wishing each other luck. A couple of bands actually recognized us from the internet, Fight The War and Static Shock. They came up to us and told us that they checked us out after looking at the shows flyer and they both said that they were really impressed with our music!! I thought that was so cool of them to come up to us and complement us like that!!
Anyway, Droid finally got they there at around 5:00 pm!! Making them FOUR HOURS LATE!!! Not to many other bands were to happy with that. After all was said and done, the only band that was able to get a sound check was...The First Among The Fallen!!
So after our sound-check, they told us that we'd be on in three minutes. They opened the doors and the people started lining up to see us. Finally, the lights went dim, the sound master welcomed everyone to the Whisky a Go Go and told them to 'give it up to The First Among The Fallen'. With the lights dimmed down, the crowd cheered as they heard the intro to our most energetic song, Daddy Daddy. I had my back turned pointing to Bug as he played it sooo sweet. When I started singing, I turned around and saw about 100 faces looking right at me cheering. Then finally, at the end of the songs intro, I let out a blood curdling scream (THIS BULLET IS FOR YOU) just as both Mark and Adam rocked their instruments as if they wanted to destroy them.
We got such a great response from both the fans and the other bands!! And after the set, everyone who was touched by set came up to us wanting pictures and autographs.
It truly was a night that I'll never forget for the rest of my life!!! I can't wait to do it again!!!

The First Among The Fallen

Life On Tour Pt. 1

While we're not 'technically' on tour, we are playing shows now, starting this Friday, March 21st at the World Famous Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, CA!! I just really can't believe that it's only two days away!! I have so many questions in my head too. Like, will we all be more nervous than excited? Will the crowd like us? Will we play well? Will everyone we invited show up? Will the other bands playing that night be nice guys? Will they have hard lemonade at the bar? Just so many questions running through my head all at once...it's all to much to think about.
But one thing that I do know is that I've never been more excited for something like I am for Friday. I know I've mentioned it before but it just blows my mind that my band's very first show is going to be at the world famous Whisky in Hollywood!! I just can't believe it at all. If this is all just a dream...please don't wake me up. It's always been a dream of mine to front a band and be up on stage playing for people who came to see us.
I am a little sad that three people I love won't be able to make it that day. April won't be able to make it because...well, duh...she's eight months pregnant. And Becky and John, two of my best friends won't be able to make it because they have work the very next day (early morning to be exact). I understand why they can't go, and I'm not mad at them for not going either, it's just that, it wouldn't be the same without them there, and it would've meant the world to me to see them there, front row, cheering me on. That's life I guess...you win some, you lose some. Well, at least they'll be there in Corona, helping us win the Showcase Showdown!!
Anyway, we have band practice today and tomorrow to prepare ourselves for Friday. I know we're ready, we just want to tighten all the bolts before we start the machine.
On Friday, I'm going to take half a sick day from work so that I can go home and prepare myself for the big show. I'm going to change into my 'rock star' clothes (my favorite ripped-jeans, a studded belt, and an awesome-cool shirt), put on a little makeup, redo my hair, eat some energizing food, and buy some '5 Hour Energy Drinks' from Walgreens. Adam is going to pick me up at 1:45 pm and we're going to go on the musical journey of our lives!! It's going to be a night to remember for everyone, especially the four of us. Wish us luck!! (in person if you're going to be there)

PS. Adam, the drummer for The First Among the Fallen has launched the MySpace page for his other band Avolition. They recorded with the same producer who is recording TFATF's EP, A Broken Beauty. Check them out, befriend them, and leave them a complimentary comment; they really are a great band!!!
